Since 1977, a group of educators undertook the process of founding a technical training institution in order to provide Colombian high school graduates intermediate careers.
After receiving educational visits from the Ministry of National Education, the educational center obtained the permission to start working for its first programs such as:
Plastics technological studies, medical equipment, industrial electronics and, automobile mechanics. In order to do so, The Ministry issued the Resolution 15572 on October 25th 1978 which grants the operating license with the name Escuela Colombiana de Carreras Intermedias.
On March 11th 1980 with Resolution 03367, the institution received the approval of the curriculum for the registered programs. On March 28th 1985 with Resolution 2683, the legal capacity of the college was granted by the competent authorities.
According to law 30 of 1992, a new responsibility of creating new programs was given, fulfilling the requirements of the law, the college registered the following technical professional programs: Industrial Mechanics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Environmental Development, Business Development, Fashion Design, Customs and Tax Management, as well as: International Trading and International Business.
Currently, the institution offers the Colombian high school graduates the totally of the aforementioned programs under the control and supervision of ICFES ( Instituto Colombiano para el Fomento de la Educación Superior – or Colombian Institute for the Promotion of higher Education)
On 22nd September 1995, the Interinstitutional agreement of mutual collaboration between Universidad Santiago de Calí and Escuela Colombiana de Carreras Industriales was signed. It was endorsed by the respective rector of each of the educational center.
The objective of the aforementioned agreement focused on promoting common activities in academic training plans, teachers and students exchange, infrastructure and services exchange, coordinate and promote research projects and technological development and, mutual counsel and assistance.
Fulfilling the requirements in the presence of ICFES, the institution starts academic training activities by cycles on the basis of the technical professional education. From 1996 to nowadays and in an uninterrupted way, the college trained professionals in Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanics Engineering, Plastics Engineering and Systems Engineering and it counts on about 4000 students grouped together in the aforesaid careers.
On November 20th 1999, the International Grouping of Marketing and quality granted the educational center the Worldwide Prestige Award (WPA), in a ceremony held in the Meliá Reforma Hotel in Mexico D.F. This recognition implies an important commitment to improve the mission of the college and assist the youth to go into their classrooms, workshops, studios and laboratories.
On August 19th 2014 by means of Resolution 13370 of the Ministry of National Education, the institution was recognized as Universidad ECCI, demonstrating once again our commitment with Colombian education.
